Pulled Pork

My hubby is on this kick about the caveman diet. The gist of the diet is to eat the way cavemen did...meat, meat and more meat. I am trying to humor him, but I am already very sick of it. This recipe is off the blog of a guy who is doing the "caveman" diet. It is pretty amazing!

Pulled Pork in the Crock pot

1 pork shoulder cut (butt or picnic), weighing 3-4 pound
1 tablespoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon of black pepper
1-2 tablespoons of granulated garlic or garlic powder
The juice of one lime (or sour orange, if you can get one)
1 onion

Mix together salt, cumin, garlic and pepper then squeeze the lime into the salt mixture. Cut up the onion and put it on the bottom of the crock pot. Rub the salt mixture on the pork and put it on top of the onions. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. Pull pork apart with forks and serve with tortillas/ on a sandwich, or in my sad case... alone (because of the DIET!)

  1. I love pulled pork! I make it about once a month for Taco Tuesday! I love it for sandwiches with coleslaw too but unfortunately my kids dont like it so much that way. Good luck with the diet.

  3. Ugh! I just deleted my post. Anyway I was saying I love this recipe, minus the cumin. I also like the commentor above who says she makes pulled pork on taco Tuesdays - which may me thing that this should have a sauce of some sort to go with it. But great idea and recipe Sienna, thanks. Now let me go read the idiot's guide to cupcakes...that sounds like something I should read. Smiles. - Haupi

  4. My question is does he eat more fruits, veggies, etc than meat? Okay, my other question is if he had to go hunt the food, would he be eating as much meat?
Probably why my husband would never suggest it... he'd know what he'd get.

  5. Yeah it is a disgusting diet... And the idea is that they eat as much meat as they can because it is the only thing in abundance. Of course a MAN had to come up with this idea.
He does eat a lot of fruits and veggies, but it is pretty much like the Atkins diet. I just love rice and potatoes soooooo much. I just sneak it in the rest of the day, but I still don't feel satisfied at dinner without starch. I guess I needed to vent ☺

  6. The "caveman" diet is simply based on foods being either in or out. In are the Paleolithic Era foods (meat, fish, shellfish, eggs, tree nuts, vegetables, roots, fruit, berries, mushrooms, etc.). Out are Neolithic Era foods (grains, dairy, beans/legumes, potatoes, sugar and fake foods).

Under the paleo concept the quantities consumed of each “in” food is up to the individual. You can make it meat heavy if you want, or more fruit and veggies if you prefer, as long as the foods you eat are paleo.

Now it seems that your husband likes meat, so he's using this as an excuse to eat lots of it.
